Road To Cardiff-Champions League

Ian Rush picking the draw out! P.C. Champions League

Champions League draw for the quarter-final took place on Friday morning at UEFA headquarters, Nyon, Switzerland. It wouldn’t best a mistake to say that this is the best quarter-final tie in recent years. The quarter-final draw ended with following results (in the order they were drawn in the draw):

  1. Atletico de Madrid vs Leicester City

  2. Borussia Dortmund vs AS Monaco

  3. Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

  4. Juventus vs Barcelona

Champions League quarter-final first leg will take place on 11th and 12th April, and the second leg will take place on 18th and 19th April. The first leg will be played at home of Atletico de Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Juventus.

Juventus vs Barcelona!

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid and Juventus vs Barcelona will be the crucial tie of the quarter-final which will send two of the European heavyweights out of the Champions League. Barcelona met Juventus in the final of Champions League with Luis Enrique side claiming the victory to win their fifth Champions League title. Juventus have only conceded twice in this Champions League while Barcelona have scored most goals i.e. 26. So, it would be a fierce battle between the Spanish Champions and Italian Champions. Dani Alves last won the Champions League against Juventus with Barcelona and visiting the dearest former club would be a challenge to the Brazillian defender.

Bayern vs Real!

The defending champions are playing against Carlos Ancelotti’s Bayern. Ancelotti won Champions League for Real Madrid in 2014, and it would be interesting to see him visiting his old club. Ancelotti will be the only manager to win Champions League with three teams if he does that with Bayern, previously have won with Real Madrid and AC Milan. Zidane’s team has been conceding goals but are still the favorites to win the tie with fierce attacking football led by the world class trio of BBC. Sergio Ramos is the crucial player for Los Blancos, with his defending skills and goal insight. Ramos has scored on previous two finals in the Champions League, with one of them coming at the injury time against Atletico to clinch the title back. On the other hand, Bayern thrashed Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate to reach the quarter-final. With the likes of Robben, Lewandowski, Vidal leading the attack, they can penetrate any defense in the world. The world’s best keeper behind the goal with the likes of Boateng, Hummels in front, it’s really difficult to penetrate them. It’s the well-balanced team, and the way they are performing now, they are one of the favorites to win the Champions League.

Celebration as they reach the quarter-final!

Borussia Dortmund have to play with AS Monaco who surprised Manchester City after coming back from a two-goal deficit. Although Borussia Dortmund have a good strong team, they don’t have consistent performance, and AS Monaco may surprise them with a win. AS Monaco are in a great form, and they have been good in front of goal, although they aren’t enjoying the best defense. Aubameyang is the key player for Dortmund and has been in a great form. Nevertheless, one of them is going to the semi-final.

Celebration of reaching the quarter-final!

What a fairy tale it has been for Leicester City! The underdogs are in the quarter-final, and it’s even more amazing that they are the only English club to reach the quarter-final this year. They have been a surprise package in the Champions League, and not many teams want to face them.
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said,“I don’t think there will be a single coach who are hoping they face Leicester. They keep achieving what they are told they can’t achieve.”
And they are facing the Spanish side Atletico de Madrid. Atletico Madrid are not having the best La Liga season, but are enjoying a good form in the Champions League this season. Having lost two Champions League in a span of three years, Atletico de Madrid are desperate to win it. Leicester-Atletico may seem as the easiest tie in the Champions League, but it’s football and Leicester may again show a bit a magic to beat Atletico Madrid.

This is all from the Champions League draw, and it’s for sure we are getting an entertaining quarter-final.
