Real Madrid lost yet another match in front of the home fans against Villareal drifting them further away from the La Liga title chase. Los Blancos are 16 points behind the league leaders Barcelona and are placed 4th on the table. If Barcelona wins today against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid will be 19 points behind by the end of the day.
Real Madrid has lost 8 points in last three La Liga matches, and the best forward in the team is looking out of form. Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t scored in all these matches and in fact, has missed many clear-cut chances. There is no doubt on the potential of the five-time Baloon dor winner, but he has not been playing well in La Liga this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 4 goals in 14 matches this season in La Liga, which is far from good according to his standards. This has had a great impact on Real Madrid being behind in La Liga title race. Well, Zinedine Zidane doesn’t seem to have any problem with Ronaldo’s struggle to find goals and defended his players before and after the match.
Before the match, Zidane told reporters on Ronaldo’s form:
“He seems fine to me and that’s the important thing,”
“The same thing was said about him a month ago and he responded by scoring goals. He will get back to scoring again.”
After losing against Villareal, Zidane was left frustrated with no proper answer to their defeat. Zidane told:
“It is hard to explain. We tried everything, we had clear chances, but the ball would not go in. There is no explanation.”
“This is a bad run that won’t stop and it is not good for my players. I can’t criticise them. This is simply a bad moment and a tough defeat to take on board because we didn’t deserve that.”
Zidane also added that mentality of the players might have affected the result of the match,
“It might be a mental aspect that is stopping us from winning. When we are on a bad run there are always negatives to pick up on. We shot on target but didn’t score, when there were rebounds we were not on the end of them. This can wear you down mentally.”
